Our Team
From Pain to Purpose: Our Team, Our Truth
At Stolen Children by CPS, we are not just advocates—we are survivors. We are living proof that hope and truth can rise even in the face of injustice.
Susan Schofield-Cabana, Marissa Hernandez, Samuel Nicholas, and I, Morris Patrick, are parents who experienced deep injustices at the hands of Child Protective Services. Our children were taken from us — not because of evidence, but because of a broken system that ignored our rights, silenced our voices, and weaponized assumptions. Together, we now speak out so others never have to suffer what we did.
Jani Schofield, our brave Foster Care Survivor Advocate, endured unthinkable abuse while in the foster care system under the supervision of Los Angeles County DCFS. Her strength, voice, and advocacy are a beacon of light for foster youth still trapped in cycles of harm.
We are more than titles. We are truth-tellers, system challengers, and justice seekers. Every story we share is a call for reform, and every family we support is a step toward healing.
I am Morris Patrick, CEO and founder of Stolen Children by CPS. This organization was born from our collective fight, and it will continue until justice is not the exception but the standard.

Together, we rise. Together, we reclaim what was stolen. Together, we change the system.
Our Story
We didn’t choose this fight — it chose us.

Stolen Children by CPS was born from our deepest pain — and our greatest love: our children.

Each of us came face-to-face with the dark side of a system that was supposed to protect families. Instead, it tore ours apart—not because of clear evidence or real danger, but because of bias, broken policies, and a lack of accountability.

I’m Morris Patrick, a father, advocate, and the founder of this organization. Alongside me are fellow parents Susan Schofield-Cabana, Marissa Hernandez, and Samuel Nicholas. We all suffered similar tragedies — our children were taken by CPS without justification, without due process, and without mercy. We were silenced, judged, and punished for loving our kids.

And yet, we stood back up.

We transformed our grief into grit. Our trauma into truth. Our losses into leadership.

Then came Jani Schofield — a fierce and fearless survivor of abuse while in foster care under the supervision of Los Angeles County DCFS. Her voice is a reminder of why we fight. Not just for parents, but for every child trapped in a system that often fails to see their humanity.

Together, we formed Stolen Children by CPS not only to tell our stories — but to make sure no other family suffers in silence. We now advocate for legislative change, offer support to families in crisis, and expose the systemic flaws that have hurt far too many.

We are survivors. We are advocates. We are a movement.

And our story is still being written — with every parent we help, every child we reunite, and every system we hold accountable.
